With just over two months left of 2017, it’s startling to look back at some of the trends of the year. Huge comebacks, great breakout stars and sensational festivals are just a few things that the year will be remembered for. One thing that pop fans will surely not forget is the changing dynamic of Taylor Swift, whose switch to a rougher and darker style of pop has given her a new image. Swift returns again this week with yet another single, this time called Gorgeous whilst indie giants MGMT release their first single in four years called Little Dark Age.

This week we are graced with a host of world dominating artists alongside some up and coming stars. Getting the chance to put rising artists alongside the big names is a wonderful opportunity. Whilst the industry’s big players have already had a host of big hits and thankfully are continuing to produce brilliant tracks, it’s refreshing to see some of music’s newer names rival them with the quality of new singles being produced each week. There’s been an air of brilliant unpredictability amongst 2017’s music releases with the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Arcade Fire and LCD Soundsystem amongst many others releasing new material branching into unexpected territories. This week continues to highlight the element of surprise as Sam Smith returns for the first time since 2015 with Too Good at Goodbyes.

It always seems to amaze us here at The Music Radar UK when we realise that we are compiling the final brilliant mix of tracks from a certain month. This week, we say adieu to August, a month which whilst might not have been hot in temperature, was hot for many other reasons, noticeably the amount of brilliant new artists that have emerged from the shadows to claim some light for their own. As some of the world’s most revered bands, singers, acts and DJ’s display staggering sets across the fields of Reading, Leeds, Creamfields, SW4, Victorious and many more festivals this bank holiday weekend, we can only wish that you have the best of times. It’s astounding to believe that we are nearing the end of not just another month but another season. With stunning weather over a month ago, the summer kicked off in style with huge anthems and as we prepare for the chaotic even that is Reading & Leeds festival this weekend, we are constantly reminded of 2017’s glorious releases from artists across the line up. Leading the way this week is a rock band that can only be described as titanic. Having headlined Reading & Leeds themselves in 2014, Queens of the Stone Age release their highly anticipated seventh album Villains upon a heap of rumours that they are going to perform a secret set at Reading today.
