The Release Radar 08/09/17: Sam Smith, Taylor Swift, Foo Fighters and more

There’s been an air of brilliant unpredictability amongst 2017’s music releases with the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Arcade Fire and LCD Soundsystem amongst many others releasing new material branching into unexpected territories. This week continues to highlight the element of surprise as Sam Smith returns for the first time since 2015 with Too Good at Goodbyes.

There’s a continued air of unpredictability as Taylor Swift releases a second new track in as many weeks with …Ready For It? Dave Grohl’s legendary Foo Fighters continue the promotion for upcoming record Concrete and Gold with the release of The Line. With their first single since 2014, Irish rock legends U2 return with You’re The Best Thing About Me. The ever-quirky St. Vincent releases her second track of the year in Los Ageless whilst legendary singer-songwriter Beck puts out Up All Night. Welsh rock legends Stereophonics release their second single of the year in Caught By The Wind

A previously unreleased George Michael and Nile Rogers collaboration airs for the first time today, called Fantasy. One of pop’s most outspoken singer’s, Tove Lo returns for the first time since 2016’s Lady Wood with new single Sugar Tits. Former One Direction member ZAYN teams up with Sia on Dusk Till Dawn. Former American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson makes a return to music with Love So Soft. Former Disney Channel star Demi Lovato releases You Don’t Do It For Me Anymore.

Nina Nesbitt releases her second track of the year in The Best You Had whilst Elbow team up with the incredible John Grant for their previously released album track Kindling (Fickle Flame). Superfood continue their stunning 2017 with the release of Where’s The Bass Amp? The Front Bottoms make a return with Vacation Town.

Low Island, one of our biggest future tips, release The Lines whilst Wild Youth release Lose Control. The incredible Barns Courtney continues his brilliant year with the release of Kicks. The powerful Himalayas bring out a new track in Sigh on a Hurricane whilst Bad Sounds bring out Hot Head Chippenham.

US and London dance collective Superorganism bring out their incredible debut single something for your M.I.N.D, a track set to expand their fan base rapidly given its addictive nature. Kolsh teams up with Aurora on In Bottles whilst a large collaboration of Hailee Steinfield, Alesso, Florida Georgia Line and watt all team up on Let Me Go. 

Kyla and Popcaan team up again on You Ain’t Mine and R&B legend Miguel releases Shockandawe. Some of Hip Hop’s finest team up on the latest G-Eazy track No Limit, which features the likes of A$AP Rocky and Cardi B.

Alongside this week’s brilliant list of new singles, there is a great selection of new albums ready for you to hear. Cincinnati rock band The National release their seventh studio album Sleep Well Beast whilst US singer Tori Amos releases Native Invader. Former professional surfer and king of relaxed acoustic rock Jack Johnson brings out his seventh album All The Light Above It Too. Nothing But Thieves release their second album Broken Machine and Mount Kimbie release Love What Survives. Alvvays release Antisocialities whilst dance producer Robin Schultz releases Uncovered. ODESZA release A Moment Apart, an album full of diverse collaborations. Nick Mulvey brings out his highly anticipated second record Wake Up Now.
