The Governors Ball 2017: Line Up Announced for New York Festival

NYC’s Governors Ball announces huge line up including Lorde, Royal Blood, Tool, Childish Gambino and Phoenix.

In the last 24 hours, festival organisers have announced that Tool, Chance The Rapper and Phoenix will headline the festival based at Randall’s Island Park in New York City which aims to give the city a contemporary music festival with a huge range of artists across four stages.

This year’s line up is filled with incredible artists with Lorde, having announced her live return earlier this week with a slot at Coachella, confirming an appearance at the festival. Childish Gambino will be bringing his soulful, gospel inspired album “Awaken, My Love!” to the main stage whilst rap legends Wu-Tang Clan and Wiz Khalifa will also play. Indie-rockers Cage The Elephant and Australian DJ Flume will shine at the 2017 festival which will also see the return of Franz Ferdinand following their previous collaboration with Sparks.

This year’s edition will provide the first appearance in 2017 for Royal Blood, who will return with their second album, set to be released in the next few months. Fellow British artists Skepta, Stormzy, Michael Kiwanuka, Charli XCX, Blossoms, Banks and VANT will also make an appearance.

The crowds will be treated to huge headline sets from Phoenix, whose return sparks rumours of a new album in the mix, and Childish Gambino, one of the biggest names in hip-hop at the moment who will also be bringing his new album to his festival headlining set. The 2017 line up highlights strength in depth rather than strength from the top. There are many great artists on the line up but the headliners themselves are a relatively weak choice when considering last year’s headliners were Kanye West, The Strokes and The Killers.
